Charlie, Sr. (AKA PawPaw)

Tonight, we lost an amazing man. My Father in Law, Chaytor's PawPaw, and a wonderful friend. There is a lot I could say about Charlie, Sr. But the one statement I think that sums up this man is Love. This man loved more than any man I have ever met. He loved his Country. So patriotic. He loved our freedoms and believed in fighting for them. He loved this county. Powhatan was his home and he wanted the best for it and it's community. He put a lot into this community and he believed in it's citizens.
He loved God. God, he loved God. He was faithful, truthful, and all giving of himself to our Lord. He trusted in him, even when things weren't understood. He lived his life as a Christian.
But most of all, Charlie loved people. If anyone should write a book on how to love, it is Charlie Green. His heart was poured into everything he did. He loved and wasn't afraid to show it. He was so sweet and kind. He had the most gentle voice.
He loved his wife like every husband should. He would do anything for her. He was always there for her and I believe he was her rock.
He loved his sons. He was so proud of each one. You could see it in his eyes. And he boosted about them, as all fathers should about their children. He loved his sons.
He loved his grandchildren. I will always remember the smile on his face and giggle when Chaytor started talking and calling him PawPaw. He would light the room up with his smile. He always wanted more of his grandchildren. And he never turned them away, even if he was busy with something. Family always came first.
He loved his daughter in laws. He was accepting and forgiving to me. And I can't thank him enough for that.
And we love him.
I don't understand how God works in these situations. I don't think God "takes people when they are ready"....sometimes that is all people know to say in situations like this. But, it was too early for Charlie, as it was for Robbie.
I am so glad Chaytor was close to Charlie. He loved going to Greenie and PawPaws.
I am nervous and scared to talk to Chaytor about this in the morning. A second male figure in his life is lost to him.
But he will always have his memories of PawPaw. I will keep them alive.
God Bless you, Charlie. We will miss you so much.

This is the most beautiful THING you ever wrote. Chaytor will be blessed to read this when he is older and through his mother's words will KNOW what kind of person Charlie Sr. was. I only met him a couple of times....and I feel like I now know him because of YOUR words. Thank you for that. Praying praying praying for you as a mom, for Chaytor as a grandson, and for the rest of the family. Love you so much. Thankful that you were able to be touched by this, clearly, very special man.
