I saw a statement on Face Book by Morgan Freeman that said "turn off the news". Now I don't remember what else it specifically said, but I can't turn off the news. Let me make sure you understand me: When Chaytor and Russell are up and home, the news is not on. But when they are asleep or at school, I can't help but watch it. And here is why:
I don't want to forget what happened. I don't want to cover up this tragedy so I don't feel bad or sad for the families and I have a happier day. For ME, I have lived in my own world long enough and I am sick of pretending that just because everything in my life is pretty darn good, I should be satisfied. I want to have that constant awareness that this world is so messed up. That are children are not safe from others and evil. I want to be on guard so that, well, I'm ready for when it comes. And yes, I said when. Cause it will.
We have evil in our community. Mary Anderson faced it last year. Our neighbors who have had their houses broken into or their children molested or bullied or beat up have faced it. Don't even get me started on what our officers face everyday but are not allowed to discuss. There is a lot messed up in our community.
So, I keep it on so I am not so naive and clueless to the truth and I am not going to be shocked that something like this happened in my community. I will be ready for battle. That I am mentally armed to spot it when it shows up. And I am armed with my Christian Family to help defeat it. And that I will not forget until the next time it happens.
My anger towards the situation made me finally make the call to Liberty and get things rolling. My calling is to help young people with life and understanding God and Faith. And I have the gonads to talk about what others won't talk about. To be honest with our teenagers, cause that is what they want: to be respected, not lied to about the world.
We have NO CLUE what that boy who killed all those children, teachers, and administrators believed. We have no clue what his mom did or did not teach him and if he accepted it. But my educated guess on this is he did not know Jesus.
We are human beings with three aspects: body, mind, and soul. When one of those is weak, it's easy for the others to falter. But when our soul has no purpose, it's so easy for evil to take over. When our mental state is unbalanced, it's so easy to make wrong decisions. We have to take charge here people, as parents and community members.
I didn't know the 20 year old who killed those people. I didn't know his mom. But I can't help but say, that if you are afraid of your child's behavior and you know something is wrong, get them help. Do not be ashamed, who cares what people think if you take your son or daughter to get help.........as long as you have stopped them from doing something horrific? YOU BE THE HERO NO ONE WILL EVER REALLY KNOW ABOUT!!
So I will watch and I will continue to pray for all of them. And I will continue to arm myself with the knowledge that evil is right outside my door. and yours. Are you ready to face it?

I totally agree with 90% of what you said. The part I disagree with is telling parents to get the help they need for their children. Yes, these children need help, and yes it is their parents who need to get it for them. However, the problem is there is very little real help for these children! Our mental help system is pathetic! I know several people who have tried to get help for their children/spouses. They try therapy & medication, and often is does not work. They get admitted to the hospital for a couple of days, then send them home without a plan for future care/treatment. These parents are helpless and no one is helping them. I don't understand how it is ok for Dr.'s & hospitals to "treat" these children for a couple of days and then just send them home. How would we react if this is how children with cancer were treated??? We would be appalled & demand treatment be found for these children. Why are we not standing up for these children & parents who are mentallly ill and desperately seeking real help???
very true Lisa!!! We have got to find a better way!
Another reason few people receive mental help, is the cost. Healthcare is bad enough in this country. Mental healthcare is downright highway robbery. My government issued health insurance covers 100% any preventative service, with $0 copay. I pay a mere $20-$40 for other services. Mental healthcare however, must be met by a $2,000 per year deductible before my insurance kicks in, which is still only 80% coverage. So if I, or my child needs mental healthcare, let me tell you, we won't be getting it. There is so much in this country to fix and we ALL need to stand up and do something about it.
